I am making this post to help out a friend.

they recently purchased a Reef Octo bh800SBS. The skimmer has not been running for a long time due to some damage the occurred to the skimmer.

I fixed the leaks and showed them how to start the siphon on the skimmer. The issue now is, the skimmer is overflowing. There is no way to control pump intake or air intake of the skimmer. I told them an easy way to make a temp mod to the skimmer so that they could still use it.

My question is, how does one go about controlling the air intake?

where is it overflowing?. If the collection cup is overflowing, raise the collection cup, most are adjustable. the second thing i would do is remove the sponge in there, they clog and restrict flow, the third thing you could do is put a airflow valve on the air intake. i use a screw type that allows you to let the desired amount of air in.
