Just received it yesterday. Set it up and the microbubbles were ridiculous. I raised the collection cup and lowered the air flow before I went to bed.

When I woke up this morning I opened up the airflow to full and the reaction chamber is barely making any bubbles at all. It went from crazy production to none at all in just under 18 hours.

Should I be concerned that something isn't working correctly or is this just a normal break-in cycle of abnormal production?

you would be incredibly fortunate if you got any skimmate at all for the 1st 2 or 3 days IME (It was like that with my Deltec and they have a good rep - typical breaking in period)

daft question and I am sorry for asking it
but the BH1000 I have came with a black cylinder muffler - which helps to reduce the noise of the air being pulled in
but it also came with an air line valve, which you can use should you need to reduce or increase the amount of air you want to allow to be pulled in

did yours arrive with both those options?

if you have the airline valve on are you 100% certain you set it to fully open? as if you put the wrong end on to the tube it might be that you actually fully closed it?

I would remove whatever you have on the end and see if that gives you a chamber full of bubbles again

sorry if my post is completely daft?
but I have done similar myself in the past
and I hope its just this type of thing and that your skimmer is not defective

Yep, they sent me both. It took me a while to figure out what the silencer was, haha.

Right now there is nothing on the tip of the airline hose and almost no bubble accumliating in the chamber. It was working great last night and now nothing.

There isn't anything even flowing from the output tube.

Thanks for the quick reply Steve.

After being concerned I may have a defective product I have figured it out.

I needed to prime the air intake. When I closed it up last night it must have created a syphon or something. A quick suck on the airline hose and everything is back to normal.

I am very happy with this thing. It's creating some wet skim already. How's yours doing Steve?

I did get a chance to read what you had written before you deleted it. All good ideas. I was real worried the motor had burned out on me, but it was a quick fix with the air intake hose.

Clarky, I just put this on my tank tonight. What the reviews said were spot on, the only fault with this thing is the directions. This is my first protein skimmer and I am new to the hobby. Of course I have a few questions which I am sure to some sound rediculous but it happens to everyone at one time or another. Are you using the blue bubble stopper on yours? Also what level do you set the collection cup at? How high do you want the bubbles going up that inner cylinder of the collection cup? Basically how the hell do you use this thing? Sorry for the questions but like I said I have no clue what I'm doing and nobody I know has used a HOB skimmer. If anyone else would like to chip in please do, all help is appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Pete

No problem. I had the same questions when I started: My answers are in red.

The collection cup you will have to play with. It depends on how much airflow your using. I know if I let it go full air my collection cup fills up with just water. It did that a couple times in the beginning till I got it dialed in.

Thanks clark. I got it set about 3/4 of the way up and the bubbles are just breaking over the top like you said. I guess I wasn't that brainless after all. I actually can't believe what came out of it in the first 2 hours of operation. Thanks again
