What level should a reef tanks TDS be at? I just got a meter from AWI and mine reads 296ppm. I have a ro di system from them as well. I just got new filters in too. I will replace them if this is to high.

do you mean the actual salt water in the tank, or the water going in from the RO unit?

Are you trying to read the level in your tank (i.e. saltwater) or are you measuring the water coming out of your RO/DI unit. If it's the water coming out of your RO/DI, that should be zero so you're either reading the waste line instead of the output line or your RO/DI isn't working at all.

If it's the reading from your tank, you can't use a TDS meter on saltwater.

Never tested the water in the tank so I'm not sure.
Water going in should be 0 with new filters .. Air water ice .com recommends change filters when it get's to about 10% of the source water TDS.

I should have said water coming out should be 0. My tap is around 150.. Depending on what part of the country you're in it can be 2-300+ from the tap.
If yours is 296 coming out of the RO/DI then something is not filtering most likely. Definitely replace those filters.

Well lesson learned today I changed the filters and now it reads 001ppm. Filters in the Las Vegas valley will not last 6 months. Our water source here is so bad that I think it just eats up the fiters. If you ever want to see something crazy do a google search about the water in Las Vegas. There is actual traces of rocket fuel in the water. in the 80's there was a plant in Henderson about 6 miles from my house that exploded. That plant made the fuel for the space shuttle. Here two links to the explosion.
