Reefcleaners order

I received another order of snails today and noticed something bunched up inside of the wet paper towel in the bag. Its a shell less hermit crab, my question is does he stand a chance of survival without a shell and should I just put him in my fuge in my sump? I dont really want him in the tank trying to kill my snails for his new home. Any suggestions would be much appreciated as he is in a cup atm.

 

I would stick him in your sump with several empty shells. I don't think they survive very long without a shell...so give him lots of options to pick a new one and hopefully he'll make it! I don't know much about hermit crabs, but that's what I've read online...

 

Yeah thats the prob I don't have any extra shells for him to get in there all occupied.

 

you will need to resolve this problem. if you keep hermits, you have to keep in free shells... and even then it is not a full proof plan

 

Do you have a LFS near by that sells them (empty shells)? Was his empty shell in the package? If not, I don't know what to tell ya...Sorry!

 

if u just got a brand new cuc you will end up with a few empty shells heh just give it a day or 3

 

haha, there is some truth to this!

 

I have no intentions of keeping hermits I ordered all snails but unfortunately this guy was in there homeless. He is rather large compared to the snails I have atm.

 

Oh poor guy!! I thought you ordered hermits and he just came out of his shell during shipping. If you can get to a pet store you can get some shells. Hopefully he can hang in there until you get him some shells! And you can name him "Lucky," awwww.... ;-)
