I think that some people can just naturally get into one hobby or another, and then burn out and move on to the next. I think "reef slump" is one of the reasons that there's nearly always a few complete reef set ups available on my local on-line classifieds. The other reason of course, is "buying a bigger tank frenzy."

Maybe you just need to step away from the hobby for a bit, and keep your tank in low maintenance mode. Explore some other hobbies and see if you drift back to reef keeping or not.

Last year I moved into a new house, and since I was busy I paid a local tank maintenance guy to move it for me. I helped him set it up at the new place, and we got to talking. It turned out that he got into the hobby as a teenager and got a job at a local Big Al's. He had his own tanks, and started a full time tank maintenance business.

He was in his late 20's at the time of my move. I asked him what kind of set up he had at home, and he told me that he didn't have anything at all in his place to remind him of salt water! He hated the hobby now and wanted nothing to do with tanks unless he was working on them for $$.

I guess that's an extreme example of a slump.
