Hey all, I'm one of the new guys, and since I found this site while researching how to setup my first reef tank, I thought I should let you in on how it's going. I know how you guys love your pics, so I'll give you what i've got.

Front of tank, no water yet.

I'm hoping to keep mostly LPS and softies in this tank, and I'll be hanging a 175w MH pendant above it for the lighting. The sump is pretty small, but there is a new nano skimmer out that I had in mind while building it. The fuge section is also kinda small, but I figured it was better than nothing as I'm working with limited space. I'm running a Rio 2100 pump for the return.

Also, shortly after I took these pics, I filled it with tapwater just to test the flow and the circulation. I found a small leak coming from one of the barbed fittings going to the Loc-line. The overflow also seems kinda loud, which I was suprised about. I tried to baffle it a bit with some filter sponge, but it restricted the flow too much. The Rio 2100 seemes a bit under-powered, and I was thinking that it may just be that there's not enough flow to keep the overflow filled.

Anyhow, there it is. Any questions, comments, ideas or criticisms are welcome.

Pretty sweet im subscribing as well. Question, that black piece connecting the 3 tubes is that just a splitter? I'm just wondering because its an interesting shape as compared with regular pvc.

Nice setup. Did you drill the tank your self?

Can you describe what locline parts you used to do this. Tried looking but don't know what to get.

Yup, I drilled it myself. It's really easy.

My wet test has yielded yet another problem. When I shut off the pump, the returns siphon back the water from the DT into the sump. Since I put the returns a bit lower in the tank than I maybe should have, this is a potential disaster as the sump isn't nearly large enough to accomodate that much water. It looks like I will need to install some check valves in the return lines to prevent backflow.

I'm starting to consider getting a new tank and re-drilling it. Man, the wife is gonna be peeved if I do, tho :-[.

It's a flow switch. It flips flow between the two outputs creating really good reef flow. I was looking at those the other day at the LFS. Can't wait to see how it works for you.

Well I ordered everything for the returns from Glass-Holes.com. I got 2 of thier 3/4in return kits. Each one includes a bulkhead, male adapter, ~5in of 3/4 Loc-line and a nozzle. I also got two 3/4in to 1/2in wye reducers, 4 sections of 1/2in Locline and 4 nozzles.

If you are going to use Loc-line, BUY THE PLIERS! I didnt realize until it was too late that I would need them. After snapping that stuff together manually, my hands hurt SO BAD.
