So a couple months ago I bought a Reeflo Dart for my new 185g. This was shortly before my wife decided she wanted a Porcupine Puffer. As a part of that story I have purchased a separate 65g tank that I'll be running off the new main 185g system. Since I was adding 65g worth of tank and a decent amount of head pressure due to the length of pipe that will be run to the tank, I needed a bigger pump.

So what's the problem? Just return the Dart to the place I bought it from and but another pump! Well, like an idiot I threw away the box it came in, meaning a return was out of the question.

I called Reeflo to get an idea of what pump I needed to move up to. They did the head pressure calcs and I found that the next size up, the Barracuda, was too big and keeping the Dart was not going to provide enough flow. So interestingly they have an impeller mod they can do to the Barracuda to reduce the flow and increase its performance at higher head pressures. The call this modded pump "The Goby." From a Barracuda to a Goby :)

This gives the Goby a 3200gph flow at zero head vs. the Barracuda's 4500 and gives it a max head of 20' vs the Barracuda's 18'. I've got about 10' of head and it will be providing about 1900 gph at that head height. It's a special order item you can only get through Reeflo, to my knowledge.

Anyway, I ordered the Goby and then asked them if there was anything they could do on the Dart I had. They told me that if it hadn't been run (and it hadn't) they would refund the purchase price after I shipped it to them and they verified it hadn't been run.

I have to say that in today's economy with purse strings tight, I did not expect them to do anything. They didn't need to do anything. But they did and they now have a customer for life.

Beth at Reeflo was the one who helped me out. Definitely a great company to do business with.

Thanks Rocket. I'm in the market also for a Reeflo. Rather than "guess" on size, I'll just call them.
