Finally, after 5 months of using a swing arm, I ordered my refractometer! Cant go wrong with BRS refractometer + calibration fluid only 40bucks. Hopefully being cheaper it is not lower quality reviews seems great on it, Im really look forward to accurate salinity checks and not worrying about accuracy issues ;D

Nice! Its a good investment. Even if its cheaper, it will always be better then a swing arm. If you ever run out of calibration fluid, just use RO water to do it.

Using RO to calibrate is not accurate.:( You want to calibrate it in the range in which it is being used.1.023-1.026.;)

Yea the online statement said to never calibrate it with RO/DI fluid or it will make it inaccurate. I guess you could just buy another bottle of 1.026 fluid.

Never used one of these things before interested to see how they work. What kind of care should I take with it do you clean it after each use, water viniger etc. How often do you calibrate?

I calibrate mine once a month.Care is very simple after use rinse it with a little rodi water and wipe dry with a paper towel. My present refractometer is going on two years old and still looks as good as new.Never submerge the refractometer in water.;)

Seems simple enough. I do not use RODI water though so do not have a source to rinse it with will tap water mess with my readings?

What type of water are you using for your tank?Distilled water would also work for cleaning, tap water would leave deposits behind, hindering the accuracy of the refractometer.

I use tapwater for the tank, been up 5 months and no issues I plan on eventually going to an RODI unit at somepoint but not sure when
