Dont forget about lighting your fuge!!!

Have the lights come on opposite the tank lights to help maintain a stable Ph. Use a simple CF bulb from Home Depot.

How long have you had the mud? I'm a little worried about... Old Refugium Syndrome? (I guess lol)

Just get a clip on fixture and a 6500k curly cue bulb from HD. I use 3 BrightEffects from Lowes over my pony tank/fuge. But 1 is sufficient.

Originally I was going to do that, but these are the same thing with an internal reflector. If HD doesn't have anything similar I will be getting the fixture and regular bulb.

    Thanks:beer:

LOL yes. I didn't open the link before replying sorry. They are the same type of bulb I use. Before I upgraded my fuge I still used the clip on sockets. I just took the bell shaped reflector off.

I'm debating what substrate to use on my fuge I'm building for my 75g. I was planning on just doing a 3-4" sandbed, but lately I've been considering using mud (or kitty litter) with an inch or two of sand on top.

So I'm trying to understand why the mud or kitty litter has an advantage over just plain old sand, if any? I've heard people say it's better, but that doesn't really convince me of anything.

It's cheaper than buying Mineral Mud, or any other kind of extremely high priced substrate specifically for the refugium and yoou get the same thing after you seed it. Also, I think it doesn't have to be replaced every once in a while like the mud does... I'm not sure though, someone who has had it for a while should chime in... lol Oh and for the sand bed, If you want to do 3-4" I would suggest the 4" because most of the bacteria after 4" is anaerobic (lowering nitrates). If you do 3" you'll be losing many of those anaerobic bacteria. :)

    Hope that helps :thumbs_up
