    I have just rock, 2 mangroves and chaeto in my fuge. No sand.

    I have chaeto, dsb 5.5" deep and some live rock, never use rubble use full size rock, mine is 8.25 gallon for a 15 gallon tank and have so many pod's it looks like a biblical plague, lol!

    I actually don't see the fascination with live rock in the fuge. In order for a DSB to work properly, it needs to breath. LR closes it off to circulation and creates a dead spot under it.

    If you want a fuge and you need more LR in your system, then just go without a DSB. Clean the rock from time to time with water change water and make sure it does not collect detritus.

    LR rubble is even worse... all it does is catch detritus and choke off the DSB.

    Pods do not need rock for habitat. They eat the macro in the fuge. The ball of cheato is their habitat and food source. LR or rubble in a fuge is counter productive if you have a DSB.
