The water on the top of the refugium is starting to look stagnet . My refugium drains out into my sump via a side bulk head fitting with a strainer. Should I ,some how get water movement on the top of the refugium. I show pics later if needed.

Not sure you can do this now... but you should try to position the bulkhead so that it skims the surface of the water which should prevent this. Here is a pic of mine. can you see where the bulkhead is in relation to the waterline?

Do you have a strainer on the front of the bulk head. I was worried that some of the algae would get to the dt. not sure if that is a big deal or not. The stainer seems to get clogged very easy .

I have a coarse screen on the bulkhead skimming the surface and it does require cleaning from time to time...I'm not sold on the value of maintaining such a screen.

I've got my skimmer output facing slightly over a baffle to move water in my refugium. It's enough to tumble my chaeto. I've heard of many placing a powerhead in their refugiums to keep the surface scum low.

I have a deidcated koralia 1 in my fuge that comes one 2 times at night for 15 minutes a piece.. It stirs the water, feeds my corals, and helps push over stuff that has not made it over the surface.. I swear my fuge is cleaner than my tank..

You could stick a piece of pvc in there and cut it just below the water line and that should skim the top of your water.

Yes, you want it opposite of your dt.
