I've been doing so much reading on skimmers I've pretty much ended up in circles.:-/ Each one has their own set of down falls, and the ones with the least amount of "functionality" problems are HOB Remoras and Octopus.
Sound? I have 5 tanks running in the same room, I doubt I'll notice if one more thing adds to the din.
The tank I'm adding one to is a 29 gallon.
and before I search hard out for one thing and find the other was the slightly better option, I thought I'd ask.
Also if there is something better yet again than these two, I'd love to hear about them!
Has to be HOB, I do not have a sump (yet).;)

I like the Octopus BH-100F. Has served me very well on my 40. Has an extra chamber for running media in, and can easily be adapted to run with a sump if you do that down the line.

Both the Octopus BH-100F and Remora Pro are great skimmers. If you want to go double live gonzo, consider the Aqua Medic Turbo Flotor-1000 Multi SL.

Well I have to say after setting up a Coralife 65 super skimmer at work today, I will not be going with one of those. Touchy touch tuning, the tiniest smidge of a turn on the knob that I could do made the difference between not skimming at all, to filling the cup within 15 minutes. I sure hope it stops that kind of behavior once its broken in.
Speaking of broken, I have a RedSea XL Berlin hanging around cause someone chipped the intake on it. With flexible tubing it makes no differnce, I'm sure I could handle a fix of that level. I cry though, it does not fit under the stand even on its side.

I probably will go with the Octopus. Now the BH-100F is conciderably wider, I did read PackLeader's seperate thread about this skimmer and thats what made me look at it closer, it was mentioned that one can put media and heaters in there as well. As much as the idea is great, I already have places for those (unless I should be ditching my fluval 204 in place of something else). So to save space on the back of my tank for a decent sized mini fuge, will the BH-100SS be any less effective?
