    I was wondering if I could get away with only running a protein skimmer for 12 hours a day...

    Think that would be Ok?

    It depends on your bioload. I have actually been running a skimmer that hasn't properly been working for about 5 months. (It hasn't been producing any foam, or at least rarely, that's another story). I am currently experiencing a little cyno problem, but it's been 5 months.
