Can someone tell me what the best way to store mixed water would be? I want to set up a reservoir tank with a floater switch to automatically add water to my tank as it evaporates.

Do you mean a fresh water topoff vessel? Or mixed salt water for water changes?

Both I guess. Should water for top off be fresh?

Yes, topoff water should be fresh. When water evaporates, the salt is left behind, increasing your salinity.
