That's some valuable stuff, Curt. So even some of the "big boys" are from the "taught sense" side of town. Very interesting.

Thanks for taking the time! :)

That is cool....its amazing how some life on those rocks survive the brutal curing and whatever we put them through process.

    Those are keepers!!!

I've made every mistake there is in this hobby. In fact, I graduated with Honors from the Reefing School of Hard Knocks. This education allows me to tell a newer person, "You don't want to do that....I know....I did that ONCE". (At least I learn from my mistakes). LOL

This post makes me want to bump a thread. http://www.3reef.com/forums/new-hobby/mistakes-i-made-newbie-83502.html

The 4 buds are growing nicely, and there's a 5th now too.

I continue to run Purigen, and I will change out my phos reactor with ROWA and carbon weekly when I do my water changes, until the cyano is completely absent. It'll be a long haul, but I'll stick to it.

When all algae is gone and my parameters are rock solid, I'm going to buy a test acro frag. If that does well--it's off to the races.

Looking good, if you can siphon the cyano when you do changes they say it might help speed up the clearing process. The media change schedule should do wonders for the removal.

That's the plan. With every water change comes as much physical removal as possible. This is going to be a long process, but I will beat it. From my years reading around 3reef, I've learned the following to battle algae problems:
    1. Remove as much algae as possible through physical means. Failure do do so will mean as the algae dies, it will liberate phosphates back into the water.
    2. Keep up on water changes.
    3. Keep up on changing phosphate removing media--and use a reactor rather than a filter bag.
    4. Purigen works.
    5. A refugium can't hurt (but I don't have one.)
    6. Use RO/DI water only.
    7. Monitor feedings.

Don't stop fighting on all fronts.

Just as it says on the label to BRS's GFO: "any of the above means will help, but all done together will solve the problem."

I have the purigen in my set up and recently got a dual BRS reactor which I am very please with. I can see a marked improvement in my struggles with algae in the 2 weeks I have had the reactor. I did the manual removal, adding a refugium and with an aggressive CUC and everything else have a much better looking tank. I suspect you will begin to see more and more rapidly improving conditions soon.
