    I came home from work and apparently she got spooked and jumped in her sleep :(

    I guess this gives meaning to the saying: a fish does not understand water until they understand air...

    dang. sucks. i had a rhomboid fairy jump from my tank while cleaning the algae off the glass, i was walkin backwards, then "pop!" under my shoe. i lifted up my shoe and there lay my smashed bloody expensive fish on the ground. awesome.

    I had something similar happen when I was getting out of freshwater. I was loading the entire tank into a 5 gallon bucket (lid 3/4 over the top, air stone going) to take to the LFS. The albino red-tailed shark jumped as I was stepping and I stepped on the front half. No pop but my weight came down on it. I threw it back in the bucket and it didn't move for 20 minutes. Then only random fin twitches for an hour. Couldn't right itself in the water. Checked at the LFS a week later and it's swimming normally. My gut dropped. Was my favorite freshwater fish.

    To the OP, I'm sorry for your loss. Def invest in a lid
