    Hello all,

I'm looking to buying powerheads and ro/di sysytem. Can some of you enlighten me about which powerheads and which ro/di system works for you. Which are recommended and which aren't. I have a 72 gallon bowfront tank and I want to know which power heads are good and how many powerheads I would need for SpS coral, inverts, etc. Same forcthe ro/di system, which are recmended.

    ThanX

I know a whole lot of people use Koralias and Vortechs. Koralias for price, Vortechs if you have serious cash to blow lol. The Vortechs are very versatile, with tons of different modes for flow, while Koralias are straight powerheads.

As for RODI, Spectrapure comes in recommended highly.

I run three Vortech’s in my DT and one in my sump, I love these pumps and will never be able to say enough about them….but they are, as mentioned above, a bit pricey.

I use a 4 stage Captive Purity RO/DI, works very well and puts out 75 GPD for $300, replacement cartages are reasonably priced. Kent Marine has similar units but I recall the replacement cartages were pricy – but this might have changed over since I purchased my unit.

    I got my RO/DI system from bulkreefsupply.com
    75 GPD RO/DI 4 Stage Standard System - English

The powerhead I would buy would be a modded maxijet with the 1600gph or the 2100gph mod.

For the power heads I have 1 Koralia and 2 Maxi Jets in my tank right now. The koralias are sturdy pumps and do an excellent work, but the maxi jets will be cheaper and they will perform the same way if you add the sure flo mod kit to it. I was recently looking at some flow problems (dead spots) and found out about this mod. It saved me tons of cash!

As for the RO/DI unit, I bought a 3 stage RO (ONLY RO, no DI) for a little over a $100, but if I would have done more research, I could have bought this recommended one for a tiny bit more money and it's an RO/DI with pressure gage and dual probe TDS meter. Definitely what I would get if I could turn back time. Replacement filters are not overpriced and you get good deals on the website.

Nothing but Spectrapure for RO/DI for me, nothing else comes close to the MaxCap. The CSP-DI can't be beat for $145 complete with an inline TDS meter, inline pressure gauge, batch tested and treated 90 GPD RO membrane, custon blended DI resin, 0.5 micron absolute rated prefilter and a 0.5 micron 20,000 gallon carbon block, nothing else in that price range offers all those features.

The new Koralia Evolution powerheads are working very well in my 100G system. I have done a couple product evaluations on them and am still very happy with them. Vortechs are nice but out of my budget.

No. They are the only manufacturer or vendor who hand tests their RO membranes then guarantees the Select series in writing to be better than 98% rejection, mixes all their own DI resins based on thousands of hours of lab and bench testing and uses absolute rated prefilters to protect the more expensive and important carbon blocks. They are also one of only a few whi use the much better capillary tube type flow restrictors and have been in business for over 25 years located in the same city here in AZ. They are innovators not imitators. Nothing they sell is preassembled elsewhere, everything is engineered and assembled in their own facility.
