Be VERY careful when buying RO/DI units especiall off of ebay. Pay particular attention to things like the micron ratings of the prefilters and carbons, these are important and what protects the RO membrane. Make usre they tell you up front what brand and model of membrane it includes, often they use a 100 GPD Dow Filmtec which is the absolute worst choice out there! Its not even a reverse osmosis membrane but is a nano filter only rated at 90% rejection compared to the 75 GPD Dow Filmtec which is rated at 98% rejection. HUGE difference when you are looking at tge life of your DI resin, did you know that for every 2% you reduce the membrane efficiencey you cut your DI life in HALF. Now imagine what a or 8% reduction leaves you with.
What appears to be a good deal often is not and will cost you many times more in replacements or to upgrade than if you had bought a better unit to begin with.

Things I would look for at a minimum are:
    1. A 1 micron or less prefilter so it protects the carbon block and allows it to do its job adsorbing chlorine and not acting as a secondary prefilter.

    2. A single 0.6 micron carbon block such as the Matrikx+1 Chlorine Guzzler. Carbon is made up of billions of tiny pores and the smaller the micron rating the more pores thus the more chlorine and VOCs it will adsorb. Only a single block is needed if you get a good one, less presure drop and beter treatment. Avoid high micron carbons and granular carbons at all costs. A 10 micron block may only last 1000 total gallons (200 RO/DI gallons and 800 waste galons at the normal 4:1 waste ratio)and granular products are often exhausted at 300 total gallons, thats only 60 RO/DI gallons and 240 waste gallons. Pay attention to these and ask questions.

    3. A 75 GPD Dow Filmtec RO membrane is the most popular by far. You can also ask for a 100 GPD GE Water or Applied Membranes membrane since they are actually the same as the Dow 75, all do 75 GPD at 50 psi, 90 GPD at 60 psi and 100 GPD at 65 psi and at 96-98% rejection. Not all 100's are bad, just the Dow Filmtec 100 and some of the off brand clones or no names. Ask Questions.

    4. A full sized 20 oz vertical DI filter with a refillable cartridge and nuclear grade resin.

    5. A handheld TDS meter not an inline. Inlines are not truly temperature compensated and can be significantly off. Handhelds like the HM Digital TDS-3 are temp compensated and also have a temp read out.

These are the minimums you should look for. You can go even better than these but the prices jump considerably.
If you are looking at upgrading an existing system or need replacement filters, Spectrapure is running an awesome Customer Appreciation sale right now found here:
SpectraPure Customer Appreciation SALE! 20% - 50% off

I use the 0.2 micron prefilter, 0.5 micron carbon block, 90 GPD membrane, MaxCap and SilicaBuster DI resins myself and could not be happier.

If you are looking for a very good reef quality RO/DI you might check out the 75 GPD Premium found here:http://www.buckeyefieldsupply.com/Premium-Series-c33.html

At $169 complete I don't think anyone can touch it for quality.
