I didnt compare it to anything.. Me & horton both own that one and it works fine no problems. They offered help if we needed for set up and answered any questions we had.

    well we agree to disagree!

ion exchange resins are actually things which are called coordination(sp) compounds.

these compounds are used up via a chemical reaction with the ions in the water. This is why you need to reaplce the resin once in a while.

well cant you just mount the di chamber vertical, pressure will move it through the whole chamber.
p.s. i got on of those purewaterclub units, works great and for the price i will replace the di once in awhile. and my unit does not create 5:1 waste to r/o water. its the other way around i get less the 1 gal of waste for 5 gal of water

Well let me answer and I might add after looking at your first post you have a great knowledge of the Total D.I process and I would consider it hard to you to get stuck with a bad unit or not to know what a good units is , Now to your questions I'll try to answer them this yes you can regenerate the Polymers Beads with the proper procedures and chemicals and I'd assume you know what acids to use ?

    1. First remove sediment, under size resin particles, and sort the bed;
    2. Regenerate with acid or caustic depending on resin type Not all are the same .
2.Rinse again to remove excess regenerate that was used

This above process is easier with the proper reactors to flush the beds . I myself just find it easier and cheaper to buy a bag of mix resin every few yrs.

And as to is its chemicals or not ? I guess at some point there is some type of chemical reaction with in the resigns ? But I never really did that much research about it or really cared to. De-ionization is simply an ion exchange process in which water is flowed through a resin bed of a resin called cation this resin bed exchanges hydrogen ions (H+) for positive ions, and a bed of a resin called anion resin this resin exchanges hydroxide ions (OH-) for negative ions. Now when its exhausted In the process I'm sure there is a chemical waste or reaction at some point ? But I don't care I just use it up and toss it away and I know a Mixed bed of resin offers a better product water then a bead of cation and anion . Don't ask me how that is ? the engineer I had to certify me to installation these units in several state labs and to act as a rep for their product just told me that and to find out I tied the beds both ways and the mixed bed did offer better water. But then again this was 15 to 20 yrs ago and I was taught then that it was a totally mechanical process no chemicals where involved . So if you are correct ? I stand corrected. I'm no scientist :)

You have a R/O unit that is putting out 1 gal of product water per 5 gallons of product water ? All I could would ask is Why did you close the waste valve off ? or have a mismatched flow restrictor maybe ? Not sure what a purewaterclub is ? but if they told you to run it like that did they mention that the TDS you are not rejecting is just fouling the membrane earlier then it should ?

purewaterclub was the brand, like seachem or air water ice. it was the same brand that horton and indain were talking about [and it the brand on one the ebay links they provided].
did you mean to say 1 gal of waste to 5 gal of product? becasue that is what my unit is doing putting out...and i dont have the waste value shut off, its set to the setting instructed by the company. the company stated that you dont want the value open unless you are cleaning out the value

missed that last part, they mentioned to flush the value every couple of months so it didnt affect the membrains

Well I call the creative marketing :) Let me try to explain this
O.K First off the brand name matters not to the filter and how it works , be it purewaterclub was the brand, like seachem or air water ice Kents G.E instapure culligans watersofts Joeblows there is no difference between them at all ! all use the same membranes and filters now of these places makes their one filter cores none of them !
And there are people I know who run no rejection water at all I have myself . And the reason they told you to never open the waste flush valve is because if you did that then no water would perk through the membrane. Its water and it will take the path of least resistance. And yes they all work the same way.. Now with running less rejection water that means the pressure of the water is higher inside the housing and that just pushes more solids into and through the R/O's TFC membrane . Thats why rejection rates are based on the GPD rating of the membranes change the R/O from a 25 to 100 GDP and just change the rejection rates thats all that makes one more GPD then the other ... If you use a capillary restrict or that is sized for the GPD rating then it will automatically adjust to water temperatures to keep rejection rates to the optimum amounts ..

Go ahead keep running it like that and see how it winds up. Semens Filmitec G.E and one other I know of makes all the R/O membranes and they all recommend the same rejections rates .. These people who sell the units do not make anything they just put some bells or whistles on and thats it like a Pressure Gage or a auto water cut off and maybe a TDS built in other then these they are all the same and they all work th esame .. Go ask the club how often will the membrane need replacing at a ratio of 1 to 5 and ask if the other way will not increase the life of the membrane and quality of the water .. I have never known a salesman to not try and sell his product as special .. That company can state about anything it wants to really as long as you get some water . What is the TDS reading of the product water and the input water ? see how close it is to see how effecient the unit is :) Free advice formed on many flirtation installs take it for what its worth to you and your's .

Horton and Indian Outlaw are 15 and 16 years old, and have one requirement in what they buy: it must be cheap. I've been younger, and I'm not knocking it, and I'm not dissin' those two guys, but while young, low price takes precedence over quality and research. Maybe I can shed some light on this.

As Tangster says, there's no debate, just gravity and physics and chemistry. If you take a medium like DI resin, which gets smaller as it "dissolves" away, and put it in a horizontal chamber through which water flows, this DI resin will settle, and small gulleys and canyons form. The water flowing through this vessel will take the path of least resistance; i.e. a beeline for those gulleys and canyons. When this happens, that water flows through a cavity, rather than THROUGH the the DI resin; meaning that resin might as well not be there. This is what happens through a horizontally-situated DI resin chamber.

As a response to Indian Outlaw's "well the guy says he'll help us whenever we have a problem," remark; you have to understand that sellers make this claim to get you to buy their product. I was told that when I bought my first car. They didn't want to hear from me when I had problems though. As you experience more sales transactions in life, you'll notice how the relationship between the seller and the buyer evolves. Before the sale the seller is your best friend. After the sale he's bothered by your presence. They'll help you with anything other than your ignorance. Again, I don't intend to be harsh or mean here; these are just the facts of life. Try telling the guy at the company from which you purchased your RO/DI unit that after research, you find that a horizontal DI chamber is substandard. Tell him you'd like your money back. See how he helps you then. These promises made by sellers are worthless. YOU are responsible to research before you buy. George Bush made many promises 8 years ago. See where he got us?

This very site exists so that we can bounce ideas off one another and share in each other's experience.

One disconnect exists between very young reefkeepers and reefkeeping. Being young requires that products be cheap. Salt water reefkeeping is NOT a cheap hobby.

Moving on, do your research and READ READ READ about what's out there. You'll see that the cheap units have horizontally situated DI chambers. The better ones have vertical DI resin containers.

There's a reason for that, kids.

Bunner, don't get screwed, spend another $30 and go with Airwaterice's 5 Stage Typhoon. It's a great RO/DI unit. I own it, and it was relatively cheap, all things considered. Do yourself a favor, look for quality instead of cheap. Shy away from horizontal DI resin chambers.

    Good luck!!
