ok so heres my question and its kinda dumb.... ive been reading on rocks.. the differences betwenn live, cured, and base rock. as i understand this i can b wrong usually am, base rock is basically dead rock crap u find out side somewhere, cured has been aclimated and living rock has orinasims growin on in it... such as christmas trees and fantails... so here's the question.... can any rock become live rockif it went threw a cycle or 2?

you cant just pick rocks up and put them in. some rocks have metals in them and will kill a tank. it has to be reef rock.

Your first statement is correct, base rock is dead rock. However, you next two statements are incorrect. Cured rock is the same as live rock. All that makes live rock "live" in our hobby's sense is that is has grown bacteria that will decompose ammonia and nitrite found in the tank. If it has worms, algae, snails, crabs, etc. they are additions to the rock and usually mean the rock is "live" but do not cause it to be "live."
