My buddy just picked up a barracuda unit from the lfs today. He was told to leave out the DI part for the first couple of hours while he was running it in the sink. The unit is only pumping out 48psi when it should do 80. When I looked at the lines, the waste water line is coming out at least 5 times more than the blue (good water) line. I have never had a ro unit and this just doesn't seem right to me. It almost seems as if the lines were put on backwards from the manufactuer. Has anyone had experience with this?

You get 4 times as much waste water as RO water.

As clonefarmer said, you get much more waste water than good water. And the pressure is just the pressure in the water lines in your house. Doesn't necessarily have to be 80. Just enough to push the water through the RO membrane.

Thanks for the replies, I just called someone with the same unit and he said the same thing. I bet people in Eithiopia would freak if they saw how much water we were wasting on our fish tanks. LOL

haha yeah probably so. I have seen a few times where people run the waste line to their garden or something. Doesn't necessarily have to go down the drain.

Gardens aren't doing so good right now, they are buried under 2ft of snow. I def will come up with some sort of plan for the water once spring and summer hit.

The garden is a great idea, especially since the waste water will be higher in any nitrates, ammonia and phospahtes - so it's supercharged with a bit of fertilizer compared to normal water.
