I'm looking at buying a xbox with the RROD. Is it really as easy to fix as I see on youtube and such?

I am pretty handy. I can even wire stuff and use things other than saws and epoxy.

Also, to play online, you need a 50 dollar membership right? if the machine is fixed, it should be able to be played online right? if not, you simply can't play online. right?

not sure how easy it is to fix but to play online costs around 8 dollars a month and they take it directly out of my bank account. you can also buy pass card from major stores like walmart-target-and game stores that will have a code you can enter to activate. hit me up if you ever get on. my gamertag is the same as my username on here

Outside of motorcycle road race games, I dunno if I have any plans on playing online.

That might change, but for now that is the plan.

What are the advantages of getting a xbox360 with a bigger HD? Does the std arcade or whatever it is called 360 have a HD? I have no issues with putting a disc into the drive to lay them, so i don't think I need a bigger HD.

Also, one more Q for now.

I see some models have HDMI outputs. Is that a big deal if it has the component output only? I think I have all the HDMI in's used on my HD TV anyway, so that isn't a concern, right?

I love the MotoGP games! I just wish the Boz Bros made it to the series for once. I'm stoked about Ben Spies though.

RROD can be an easy fix, depending on what the cause is...

Ben's been doing very well for not 100% factory equipment in the 2 Malaysian tests. Top 5 is very nice. Next year he will be a fiat yamaha factory rider as Rossi and Lorenzo will not be able to be both retained.

The Boz Bros are good riders, but I don't think they are at the level that Spies is.

I am waiting for WSBK 2009 to come out for xbox 360 in the US. Apparently it is out in the UK.

E74 is the error code on the one I am looking at. Is there a way to tell why the RROD is caused?

I just got the RROD. I had 3 red lights. I called them up and they said that my warantee ended Nov. 2008 but since it had 3 red lights they said they cover that issue for 3 years so tehy did the repair for free. (Sent me a new box). So if your 360 is less than three years old, they will repair 3 red lights for free.

why the heck would you want to buy a RROD 360? from a guy thats gone through many (3 units to date), successfully hacked original xbox, hacked a 360, FIXED two friends RROD, and failed to fix a good dozen others I would say NOOOOOO.

the RROD can mean a few things. there are plenty of websites related to methods of fixing this. but there are so many variables.

dependant on the manufactured date of the unit it may have undergone the 'poor soldering' job. those xboxs were easy to fix. however, units that are RROD due to a disc drive failure are not fixable by the common folk. if the disc drives bad and you want to keep the xbox LEGIT for use on xblive you have to do a ton of crap which is 50/50 if it'll come out working again. i wont get into details now because i really dont care to sit here explaining how to fix xboxs.

the only ones i was ever able to fix were ones related to heat issues. i did fix one unit that had a bad drive on it, but it wasnt useable on xbox live. its really hard to replace the drive and make it xblive useable. i dont recall exactly off of the top of my head but you have to desolder a chip from your broken disc drive and solder it onto the 'new' disc-drive which has to have the exact same model information sa the existing one. you hvae to backup the keys off of the existing drive and reflash them onto the new drive. only thereafter is it useable on xbox live.

you actually pull the disc-drive from the unit and hook it up to your computer to backup the keys and reflash the new unit.

so bottom line - id say NO its never worth it to buy a RROD unit. the ones that i fixed from heat issues months later had disc-drive failures. so its inevitable that the unit will die. if you bought the unit new you have a warranty. once you go beyond the warranty its a flat $99 fix.

i dunno thats just how i feel about it. spent many many hours fixing these things to save a buck. in the end the time spent fixing them cost me more.

xbox live is a monthly/quarterly/yearly thing. you can get refill cards at any local store or you can signup with them on their site and put your credit card in and have it charged monthly/quarterly/yearly.

i dont have any credit cards so i go with the refill card route and pay cash. its $19 for 3 months

Mine renews yearly automatically. When I sent my xbox 360 in because of the RROD. They sent me a totally new unit and a 1 month xbox live membership (which i will probably never use)
