Does anyone have any thoughts on adding decoration pieces to a tank? I have a decoration that's like a bunch of Greek ruins, but it has a base that would allow water under - and then holes on the top of the base where the water could come out. Would this be OK to put in a saltwater tank? Should I place it directly onto the bottom of the tank or on the substrate or would it matter? Hope you all don't think this is a completely stupid question...

Not a stupid question at all :)

Sounds great! I cant see any substantial reason for not putting it straight onto the sand. How big are the holes in the top? If they were large enough for smallish animals to get in then I would just go ahead and do it.

You may consider placing it in a way that you could easily lift it out though in case it started to collect detrius.

Also, I assume it's made of resin, or something that is inert?

The top holes are more like maybe 1/8 to 1/4 of an inch in diameter, so no, don't think any fish'll go through them. That's why I was kind of concerned about it is because I was afraid detrius would accumulate in the base as nothing could really get in there to get it out (except me of course). And yes, it's resin.

    Got a pic?

Honestly that might be pretty cool with coralline growing on it.

if you want to put greek ruins in your tank, why not? it's your tank! I saw a tank with a spongebob squarepants pineapple house and it was way too cool! I was jealous!

Mostly concerned that there will be a detrius build up under it. Thought I could just remove it and clear it out under there periodically, but wasn't sure if that'd be enough, or if I'd want to do that... Thoughts?

I'd think you'd be fine. Just spot check when you do water changes and maybe hit it with the siphon. Still want to see a pic. ;)

I put the decoration in (I owe you a picture), but now my clowns (the only fish in the tank), won't even go to that side of the tank. I thought it'd be good for them to swim around and so on. It's been in for a couple days now. Think they just need to get used to it, or should I just pull it out?

Some decorations might not suit aquarium use. It might leech nasties into your tank.
