got rid of the starfish... I am seeing small tube-worms of some sort in one of my live rocks. They appear to have formed tiny leathery tubes, similar to those of larger "feather duster" worms. The crows of these worms are white, and the body of the worms only extend out of the tubes when the lights are off. Their bodies are nearly hair-thin and a translucent white color. Are these good or bad??

I've heard that if the case of the body is hard, calcium, then they are ok, otherwise it could be aiptasia? Get a better answer than mine on that, I'm pretty new, but I heard that.

I'll try to get a picture, but like I said they retract when I turn the lights on. also, how many ppm of ammonia should I see when my tank begins cycling? and after how many days will i see nitrite, then nitrate?

Here is a shot of the fan-like appendage... it could be a tiny anemone for all I know...

This is a shot of the leathery looking tubes the "worms" have created that they retract into when i turn the lights on.

I have those same little tube worms in my tank with no problem along with the mini starfish with no negative effects over the past five years. Best of luck on the new setup.

Considering buying the Aqua C Urchin in sump skimmer for my system... small footprint (3"x6") and low price, and great reviews to boot.

    Here's the link for it.

Asterinas being bad is a hit or miss kinda thing but they seem to slighty lean on the non reef safe side. IMO, you made the right call. Just imagine how youd feel after you knew they might be bad and left them in and they snacked on your coral.
