I had previously posted that my new diamond goby had disappeared and that I had found him in my sump. He had somehow got into the overflow and was trapped in the baffles. At that time I fished him out and put him back in the DT, and he seemed fine. Well, afterward he disappeared again, and I later found him, once again, in the sump - this time trapped in the filter sock, but this time he did not survive the trip.

Obviously I am saddened by this, and I don't want it to happen to any more of my fish. Have people here found that their fish get into the overflow, and how do you stop this? Is it necessary to put netting above the overflow so that fish can't jump into it? (my corner overflow does have a snail guard already).

    Thanks,

    Jeremy

    Sorry for the loss.

I have a few that like to dive into my corner overflows, I use prefilter sponges on the drain. That way no little fishies will get sucked up by the current -- still a royal pain to fish the buggers out of there ! if they are real fast I will disconnect the drain at the sump and put a net under it and then pull the overflow drain pipe....flushes un into the net every time !

Sorry to hear, also had the same problem. I got a piecce of eggcrate and cut it in to fit the top, and rolled a piece of 1/8 acrilic to extend the sides up a little. Made it a tight fit so it stays on its own.
Hope this helps with some ideas.

my diamond goby has vanished as well. I haven't smelt anything dead, I cannot find him. I'm gonna look in the overflow box tonight.

I'm sorry for the loss, but I suspect I am soon to be in the same situation.

on a sidenote. Is it me, or is there a lot of bad news around here lately?
