    im with you on that

    ok i looked in to it and i found some info on the hardened salt
    salt ions hydrate from the moisture in the air and when they are mixed into the water they do not mix into solution

    proportionality of desired conservative elements may change with VERY old opened salt mix or those mixes that have been exposed to periods of high hymidity due to precipitation of some of the components.

    From the way I read that, it sounds specific to the salt in a bucket. not the salt creep (which does dissolve, rather quickly). By the time the chunk of 'creep' hits my current, it's all dissolved. I agree the other elements are, for the most part, not part of the salt creep.

    i don't think it will hurt anything by knocking the saltcreep back in the tank. but i believe it buffers salinity alone. so its not wise to go to a large aquarium and scrape all the salt creep in to a bucket, and then use that instead of salt mix for your tank;D
