Salt level decreasing

    Always thought that salt is retained in the water even when changing or adding. Reason for this questions is that I just noticed that the salinity level is slightly below 1.020

    do you notice any salt creep? that could be a reason for the salt level decreasing.

    It also happens if your skimmer produces wet skimmate and then you top off with fresh water.

    Yup Fishez is correct a lot of salt is taken out by your skimmer

    Salt creep or Calcium deposit? Thought the white crusty deposit is calcium. Also will temperature outside tank cause the the slight decrease?

    I've never seen Calcium deposits.

    Water temp would be the only factor effecting sg

    Water has to be gettign sucked out of the tank or lost somehow, like skimmer. did you add more than usual top off water or was your last water change salinity accurate? If you are using hte swing are salinity tester the reading will vary sometimes. Its not a very accurate little gadget.
