    Most areas of the country have good enough tapwater that you can dechlorinate it and use it in a FRESHwater tank. However, most areas of the country doesn't have tapwater that is pure enough to use in a SALTwater tank. An RO/DI filter cleans up your nasty tapwater so you can mix it with salt for use in a saltwater aquarium.

    You can buy them from many places online. They can be expensive, but I just bought one and it was less than $150.

    We exclusively use Air Water Ice (they are a sponsor on this forum - airwaterice.com). They have amazing customer service, pretty good prices, and their units produce extremely clean water! We've been using their products for around two years and in that time, we've had one small issue with an automatic shutoff valve which they sent a free replacement for, no questions asked. Needless to say... they're are favorite provider :)
