Well that settles it... you ONLY need to build a 3000ish gallon aquarium (probably more), then get a PHD in biology, and get cleared to get the turtle... simple. I expect an update in... oh say... a week?

    GO!

This isn't entirely relevant, but the main topic of this thread has been solved.

I was thinking about this the other day. Do marine mammals/reptiles necessarily NEED saltwater? If they all breath air..would it be possible for them to survive in freshwater? (from a very general standpoint. I realize most lakes aren't big enough to house a whale or provide the necessary food)

I would have to say it is extremely possible. In a couple of cases, it is already happening. I know they have started to find sharks farther and farther up river. I just love Discovery channel.

I think the main contributor to not seeing more species doing this is the lack of proper food.

I have seen that too..but sharks are fish. I'm asking specifically about air breathing marine organisms. I am guessing that food is the main reason that this wouldn't really be possible.

Ok.... well how about the dolphins in the Amazon River. They travel far upstream to munch on Piranha. In that case, there is plenty of room and food, so they do travel. They do not stay there full time though. Not sure why.

I didn't think about that. Good point.

Turtles need a lot of swim space and a place to come out of water and sun bath etc. Also, they seriously crap like crazy. None could be in a 6g nano freshwater or salt.
