Should I switch from using Instant Ocean Salt? If yes, what brand should I switch to?

No, I have just been reading that other brands may be better and I want my reef to have max potential

    what are you keeping?

if its FOWLR - FO - or a softy dominated reef tank - no reason to change unless you want a cheaper option IMO

If you have a tank of mostly softies and some more demanding corals , then going for a salt mix with higher values on calc and mag , may be beneficial or you can dose those elements anyway

if you have a tank that predominantly SPS corals , then starting with a low grade salt mix and adding calc, Mag , Alk is also an option

    to sum up IMHO
your fine with what your using - as long as you are aware of the needs of what your keeping and can fine tune your salt water to achieve and maintain the levels required

I am with Steve here. I use Instant Ocean and add the goodies myself. I run an LPS system with a minimal amount of fish and have had success with the basics. If it is working, 'don't fix it'.

Agreed! I use IO reef crystals and have no problems what so ever. Hardly ever dose anything.

Loyalty to salt brands is always a contentious issue.

But since we are on the topic, I I have always been happy with Tropic Marin's products and they have produced some great results for me and other hobbyists I know who use them. Their salt is more costly than some other brands, but I have always believed that you get what you pay for.

I am one of those cats that adhere to the principal that is; if everything is fine in the tank, I won't change anything.

Just curious...so what is it, do you think, that you think makes this brand salt "superior" I guess you could say(?), over others? "You get what you pay for." Well, what are you getting? What's the difference?

He's paying the government for the ability to import the salt from Deutchland :p
