Hi everyone, new to this site. Just started on my 180g/60g sump about 2 weeks ago. So I've decided to elevate my LR about an inch an a half off from the bottom and wanted some input on a low sandbed. Also, I have 20g refuge is on its way. Thanks.

Hey, Welcome to the forum. You have the right idea about raising your LR, it will help with filtering. Sand is not a necessity, and can be done without, its just personal preference..

    Aquascaping has begun! :)

Tnx!, lots of good stuff & nice people here. Been reading till my eyes were red LOL. Well, I've started building my reef using 1 1/2 inch pvc I cut. The water's not all that clear, but I'm sure it will clear up soon . Been messing with the picture loading; see if this works.

I agree with bama. The more sand in contact with water, the better. Promotes better water movement and helps curb accumulation of detritus.

that looks great! i will be doing the same with my upcoming upgrade too - and I am also going to be using pvc.

The only issue with using "pvc" to lift rock is the hollowness. It is a good place for "poo" to collect that you will never get to.
