I would do my best to remove the scum. A razor blade or glass scraper would be my starting point then a vinegar soak.

Any thoughts on running the return pump as internal/external? It will be a mag 9.5, which I believe can be used both ways.

Internal use will be quieter but add more heat, external will add less heat but be noisier and may shorten the life of the pump.

Glad to see you went with a Bean set up but why are you going to use a full height box? You can do a semi Coast 2 Coast and give yourself some free space on the ground. Also if you haven't thought about it get glass in a black tint I wish I would have done that Clear is good but black would have been slick. On that note though you should get your front facing pieces in black and the bottom panel in clear so that your light can still shine through without casting a shadow.

And as far as the internal vs. external I would go internal if I had the choice but mine was an external pump. At least with an internal if the housing leaks the water stays contained in the sump and not on your floor.

Thanks for your input 2 in 10. You are always very helpful.

    Thanks. i can't wait either.

OK, I have the space to go with an internal, or external pump - either way it will still be inside the cabinet. An external pump would make plumbing easier as it would be a straight shot from the pump back to the tank. To solve that, I may grab some flex tubing for wider turns.

If the tank is going to have sand in it then you could just cover you bulkhead plug with sand and PVC glue a cap to the underside of your stand? Your choice either way I just think you might like having the extra room for water flow and more rock work area. And I just notice is 2" going to be enough room for you to remove the elbows if needed? (like a snail attach on the elbow?

I guess that could be done. lol. Let me see what I can do...

I do believe now that I made the OF 3" wide rather than 2.

And if you go with the semi coast 2 coast be sure to use glass not acrylic since the overflow box will be bearing its own weight instead of resting on the aquarium floor.

Here is a picture of a local reefer I know of that did a semi and how it looks with the bean.
