    Hey, so far so good.

Your urchin will need food (algae), otherwise 'urchin sushi'. I got a pencil urchin from John & I had to sell it back.

    Nice work Seano.........

Thanks, man. :) I guess I will wait on the urchin then. I wanted to get a pencil urchin.

Ironically, I have more algae now than I did before. But I think that may be caused by a spike in nutrients from what I had previously, with only 2 herrmit crabs.

I have high water movement in the tank...powerheads almost at top near water with sand moving around on the bottom. but snail poo gets caught in the rocks still. how do I change that?

Ok, Seabass. I am working on the return plumbing now. here is the pump. I have a 1/2" threaded adapter then a threaded adapter again (reversed) to go into a threaded union (1/2") and then I have the 1/2 - 3/4" line adapter, then a 3/4" ball valve.

    Here is the threaded-lip adapter

Is there a piece of PVC that will do the job of the two, 1/2" adapters? When I was at Lowe's I couldn't find any that were threaded on both ends. One end should be threaded on the outside, the other end should also be threaded on outside, but should be the male end of the fitting.

What I wanted to do was just have one slip/threaded 1/2" adapter on the pump output. Then on the slip end(which would be a male end connector) I would put a 1/2 socket (slip) union. The way I have it currently (shown above) sticks up really far...

HHMMmmm, maybe that why I got a drawer full of fittings. I can never remember my plan or setup for the plumbing so I wind up buying 2 or 3 more of a fitting than I need. I need to 'see' it to make it work.

I know you have TOO many fittings from the pump to the union to the valve. It should be minimal & clean.

    Take a look here: flexpvc.com

(Yeah you can do it like that.....with threaded unions, then you can always re-use later. I buy slip-slip and cut pvc short enough so all fittings 'butt' up against each other. BUT, then you can't re-use many fittings at all)

Problem solved. I took these two pieces out as they served no purpose (I had a thread union).

Now it goes...thread union, threaded/slip 1/2"-3/4" adapter, 3/4" ball valve.

    Thank you.

I am about to order the Hydor slim skim. Should I get the slim skim (rated for 40-65 G) or the slim skim nano (up to 35 gallons)?

I am also not sure about the water depth of the regular slim skim. The nano does best at 11" water depth.
