They are the gen. 1 par30s. So hopefully any complaints (if I have any :)) have already been worked out in the new ones.

sorry didnt read through the entire thread but how many are you purchasing? they are par30's because they light a smaller area than a par38. so youll need a few to cover the tank.

Nice Sean, hopefully you like the lights! When will you get them?

Also, any news on your corals after the run in with RTN and the dips? Were you able to save a few of them? I really hope so bud, you have been so patient to get some coral in your tank, and hopefully with the new bulbs you can nurse them back to full health.

I have been in contact with the seller on NR for some time, so he was nice enough to hold onto the bulbs until we had the money to pay for them. He was taking down several tanks; apparently he had quite a few. Due to the holiday weekend post offices are closed Monday. So he will ship them out on Tues.

Thanks for the concern. I am still out of town. Dad has been watching the tank for me for almost a week now. I will be going home on Tuesday. Unfortunately, I lost the large piece of orange Monti cap. I have a smaller piece left that should be ok.

The other three corals are doing welll. Birdsnest has browned but will regain its color with the new lights.

That is cool that your Dad is willing to watch your tank for you though.

Yeah, I am glad he is willing to help. He is more interested now that we have coral(s). I would like to leave the tank up for a year when I go off to college this fall. Then when I get an apartment I will take care if the tank myself. Just trying to get things running as smoothly as possible for him so not much can go wrong when I'm away.

I was a bit worried, to find out that he hadn't contacted me about the monti's diminishing health while I haven't been home so that I wouldn't "worry" about it. I hope I can get him more educated about the hobby and ask that if something does go wrong he can contact me or hop on here and find out himself.

Anyway, my plan is to upgrade to a Diy 35g AIO tank (glass) once I have the space of my own to do so (a year or so from now). The bulbs I am getting will all be 60* optics, which will have less par on the sand bed than 40* would, but will allow for some lower light corals on the sand in the 29. These same bulbs will have great coverage in the 35 (later on).

Btw, the par30s are 3blue/2white combo and the middle one is a 4blue/1white combo.

My wife takes care of my tank when I have to go away. I have to leave for Korea for a year in June. She is a member here though, and she is fairly active when I am gone from home. I think her name is SmittysWife lol.

I'm glad to hear you were able to save most of them Sean, and yeah hopefully those new bulbs will allow the others to recover and color up nicely. And, if you were able to save even a smaller piece of the Monti you may still be able to grow that puppy out again too!

Once you start your new tank build in a year or so I do expect to see that thread as well :). I look forward to it.

Shoot me a message once you hear and decide on schools too. Just curious to hear what path you decide to go...

    Thanks!

New thread when I upgrade, for sure. This one is pretty confusing to anyone who hasn't been following the whole time.

I am waiting on a letter from Ohio State University.
