Sebae Anemone Question.

I recently got a Sebae Anemone and have noticed a couple of things that I can't really understand, and so hopefully, one of you guys, who has or had one can explain to me.

First, I placed it high up on the rocks, it hasn't moved at all from there. During the day, it's smaller, but at night, it expands, so at least I know it's still alive. I use T5s for lighting, no moonlight. Any ideas why during the day it seems smaller?

The other thing, I have a pink skunk clownfish, which has NOT even tried to come near this anemone, even though the LFS told me it was the right anemone for this kind of clown.

I'm buffled about this, or perhaps that's just the way the anemone's supposed to be. If any of you has/had one, any pointers will be of great help.

IMO its probably acclimating itself to your lighting..Give it time.......

 

from what ive read and heard on here, they are really hard to care for and need a lot of lighting, i had one from the LFS also they said the same thing, and unfortunatly i lost it though, just be careful with them

 

I had one in my old tank. It would make my wife so mad because it liked the back side of reef and you could not see it. I moved it like three times till I learned. One its looking for the best light, two its looking for just the right wave flow. I think the wave flow in the tank is much more important to it than light. Also rember its a living thing and will pick its home. As far as the clown it will take some time. First the Anemone needs time to fined a place to call home, than it has to cycle its self to adjust to your water. (mine would go small at first for two days at a time.) After that the only time mine went small was when I feed it. Do you know how to feed them? I see if I can fined some picks to share.

 

mudflap_26 is right on the money. I have never had T-5 lighting so I dont know if thats the problem, but reading how alot of ppl have reef tanks with them, I dont think the T-5 is the problem. Give the Anemone some time to find the "sweet spot". As for the clown, my clown took almost 3 weeks to call it home. Sometimes clowns dont even go into an anemone at all. Be patient and let mother nature take its course. The key word here is PATIENCE!;D

 

My bubble tip (I know, different from the seabae,...) ate freeze dried krill the first time I fed it to him (on the second day in my tank). He has eaten 3 since last week. It's cool to watch. When I was buying him, he didn't want to come off the LR very easily (and not surprisingly), so I insisted on buying him with/attached to the LR, so as not to have his foot torn and damaged. It's been ~5 days and my clowns still won't go in the anemone, so I'm thinking the clowns might be tank-bred. Here's a pic of him eating.

 

haha, i was at my lfs late at nite they about to close, got a purple tip that got stuck on the rock, rock him including the rock and discount for valentine, came out to be 8 buck and a lb of rock.

 

yeah, mine was $40 for the bubble-tip plus $7 for the ~4 lb live rock it was attached to, bc they only charged me for 1 lb. Where did you get a purple tip that cheap?

 

at my local petland store, know all the managers that were working there, been buying alot of stuff for my new fish tank so i met them all, they dont have a price tag on them so the manager can name the price, he name me cheaper since i always go there.

 

Well, I'm sorry to say that my Sebae is DED....dead. It started by turning its mouth inside out, I guess the poor thing had a rough trip from wherever they caught it, it had obvious signs of bleaching, its natural tan color was replaced by a bright white, which normaly is a sign of bleaching due to mishandling, inappropiate aclimation, etc. Too bad, the pink skunk clown had finally got used to it. I removed the dead anemone right away to be on the safe side, I've heard they can release deadly toxins into the water. I'll stay away from anemones from now on, they are far too difficult to keep and I don't think it's fair to them to suffer the way mine did.
