What are you using the pump for? The tube is only if you want to use it to add air bubbles, I believe.

i just use it to get some water movement at the surface.. is this not a good pump for that?

i think i need to add another one tho for a 65 gal. because only 90% of the surface is not cloudy. the opposite side of the tank still clouds up.

Well, it'd be good to get surface movement, but I wouldn't really recommend putting bubbles in the display portion of the tank. Corals and some fish can be sensitive to air.

I'm fairly sure the silencer is to silence the pump while it's sucking air, not while it's just pumping water.

The blue knob on top where the air tube goes in controls the amount of air. Screw it all the way in and the bubbles (and excess noise) should stop.

EDIT: If it's the pump I'm thinking of :)

Here is a link to the pump that i have along with a parts list. the air tubing and silencer is #8.

can some body please take and tell me if it is necessary for me to use this. and how it attaches to the pump.

    Thank you.

Not necessary. The plain end attaches to the hole near #11, the other end goes out of the water.

I would then guess it's somewhere on the bottom of #10, or on #1 (or the rest of the casing) somewhere.

I have 2 Seio pumps and the HOLE you see in that diagram is where the cord comes out. The BLUE KNOB that #11 is pointing to is the air control knob. If you turn the knob clockwise it will decrease the air flow and counter clockwise will increase the air flow only if you are using the air line. The air line goes into the blue knob and out of the water IF you wanted to use the air function. Is the pump completely under water? If the pump is not completely under water it will suck air no matter where that knob is set. If it is completely under water and you left the air tube off, it wouldn't matter anyways cause no air could get in.
