SharkyShark in the house!!!!

Hi everyone!
I've kinda been creeping on the forums for a while. Finally made myself a name and am gonna post! woo!!!
About me:
21 F from Chicago area, grew up around fishies (dad bred them had over 50 tanks as a kid, including 2 sting rays, and 4-2 1/2 foot long red tailed cat fish)
Currently setting up a 250 gal for the bf, he wants a shark, got the tank in the apartment, refugeum set up, we have a aquamedic turbofloater multi sl protein skimmer that we got when we picked up the tank (missing the ocean runner ph2500, so if anyone knows someone who is selling one let me know!!!)
waiting on water and bodies until we get the pump.

we are gonna get a bamboo shark
there are a lot of black ones available online (like the ones at dr.fostersmith), but we went to aquarium adventure off of 355 in bowlingbrook and they had a bad ass brown one with crystal blue eyes.
if we would've had the tank set up, he would've come home with us, but alas still waiting....
not sure if he is still there, it was about a month ago. so again if anyone knows where i could get a brown bamboo shark, spread the wealth!
we are also gonna try and put a couple other fishies in there, no eels tho, they creep me out!
the bf likes puffer fish, but the teeth are weird, i really like the emperor angels tho so we'll see.
gotta stay big, otherwise we got sharkbait

 

sweet, I have a friend that kept banded cat sharks for a few years, last one just died a few months ago so now we're looking at upgrading to a 2500 gallon setup and signing the papers to keep a black tip reef shark... don't tick me off now I have something to dispose of bodies with muahaha

j/k on the body disposal part, glad to see someone else into these cool fish

 

I've heard you should run a UV sterilizer with sharks, is that true? and also what kind of substraight are you going to use?

 

I wouldnt do puffers, lions or triggers with sharks, their known antagonists, groupers and sharks do pretty well but realize the grouper grows faster than the shark, so unless your getting a 1+yr old shark that has some size to him I'd hold off on that for a bit or your grouper will end up eating him/her

 

You have to sign papers what for in order to get a black tip?

 

i was just going off of what dr. fostersmith's website said about compatible aquarium mates. thanks for the heads up tho! we are gonna establish the tank with a couple smaller fish and get all the bugs out before ordering the shark

 

lol. after we moved my dad got 9 piranhas and put them in his big tank (the one that housed the 4 catfish) he scared away a lot of boyfriends back in the day :smartass2
