So I have no clue how it happened but i suspect it was probably from the power outage last night?

Anyways, my heater shattered and I didnt find it until this afternoon. This morning my corals were looking bad and a few of them visibly expelled half of their zoox over the course of the last 12 hours.

Is there mercury in heaters? or anything else that may be harmful to the tank and have caused this?

thats what i was thinking because when it shattered the wires were exposed. that also explains why i got a nasty shock when i had my hands in there last night! so i know there was a good bit of current and a ground into a GFI which didnt trip... *hmm better check to make sure somethings not faulty there!

Electrical current and the bimetal thermostat which is part copper if I remember right, plus what ever the heating element is made of. Sorry to hear, best of luck on recovery.

Assuming you don't lean against anything or touch anything else though..

Also, I'm sure you did this but I'd check the condition of the glass. It is possible that the heater could have chipped it which would eventually turn into a leak.
