Shining some light.......

Hello everyone,
From time to time on forums, whether relating to aquariums or any other genre, confrontations of sorts happen. Butting heads over ideas, concepts or opinions are bound to occur. One reason for this is that we can not see the person responding to a question. This is a short coming of a forum. We don't know if the individual is being confrontational "on purpose" or if we are perceiving it as such. We can't read minds. We can't see the persons affect so we are unable to ascertain their intent.
I believe everyone who responds to someone is doing so with the intent to help. We must be very careful not to ascribe emotion, malcontent or malfeasance to an individual that we neither know or can see to assess their true intentions.
I, in my writing style, may use different forms to respond. I may be blunt or eloquent, terse or expounding, however, my intent is never to belittle or deride anyone. As I read responses and pick up on those who seem to be more sensitive than others, I respond to them on the more eloquent side as I learn about each member.
I will suggest that if you think a member is being "offensive" or whatever you are perceiving, it is better to send a private message to him/her and politely discuss your objections to what or how they stated something. Have a dialog with them. This keeps the open forum "on line" to the discussion of what was originally asked instead of derailing the thread.

I once read something about tone and intent being miscommunicated through web and text based coversations.

To be honest I post on forums for my car and this is w/o a doubt the cleanest and nicest forum I have been on. I rarely every see bash or arguments here. On other forums there is an argument in every thread.
