Why would you trade a new tank for a used tank that you know nothing about? I would just put an overflow in the new tank and turn down his offer.

Well he replaces any tanks that leak or anything goes wrong with plus w/e was in it... all you must do is take a pic.. :). So I don't know.. I am kinda on the tuff spot for money right now, I'm more interested in getting more LR, and sand (Some type of sand.. I got 15lbs of sand out of one of his display tanks so :) for free) so I still need lots more of sand to get at least a 2" bed of sand.. thats what I'm wanting also only got 10lbs of LR so these are my first things to get then I'll be going for Lighting , then a skimmer.. so I'm really open to anything. He's also offered me a set of MH for 99.00$ just one of the bulbs don't work.. (used also) so I'd get 3 65Watt bulbs for 99.00$ or I can pay 199.00$ for a used set that works completely, or 350$ for a new one that works completely... so you see what I'm talking about.. he really works with people helping them get set up.

Well I just bought a new 55G like less than a month ago.. but I was using it for FW.. since I had gotten a 29g for SW but my 29 sprung a leak so I decied just to upgrade my SW to the 55g while i moved my FW down to the spare 30G we had laying around.

So basically you would be trading a newer, non-drilled tank, for an older, drilled tank?
Also remember with the lighting, you get what you pay for. I'm sure this guy is good and is trying to help you and others out, but what exactly would you be getting if you bought the MH from him? Also, if a bulb is broken or doesn't work, I wouldn't buy it, unless it's just the bulb. If the wiring or ballast is fried, you could easily spend a couple hundred dollars fixing it.

From the sounds of it, his new 55 is already drilled but just needs an overflow box?

How much did you pay for your new tank? How much will an overflow cost? It might make more sense to just work with the tank that you have than to take a used one that you know nothing about.
