I've never seen a sweeper on my candy canes or my open brain coral. In half of the front of my Biocube (29), I have them lined up across the front (by my Blasto) and they're rather happy.

1.0reef, I am sorry but if you dont want to hear no don't ask! NO FISH WILL BE ABLE TO COMFORTABLY LIVE IN A 5 GALLON! It doesn't matter if some people do it or whether it is easy to breed or what. We have already been through this. You wanted a neon goby, most of us said no, you continued trying to convince us that it was easy to breed and therefore easy to care for. Please do not use random incidents as a motive for a counter. Listen to the community of us. Most of us said no, so why continue to argue. I agree with con999s first post,we have already been through this.
On a side note, some sexy shrimp have been known to pick at zoos.

I would just make sure that the tank is large enough so there are no territory issues.

But, it really depends on the stomatopod's personality and do not put anything in the tank you are not willing to lose.

My g. ternatensis was in a 8g Biocube before moving to a 34g. He was definitely aggressive in the 8g and is super peaceful in the 34g. Then again, g. ternatensis are known for being very aggressive.

5 gal is a little small for a mantis and fish IMO. It isn't size appropriate for fish I normally recommend (damsels or firefish). For tankmates you want active swimming fish that stay near the top of the water column thus require more room. The only fish I can think of that are size appropriate for a 5 gal are clown gobies and they are perch fish so the odds of them becoming lunch are increased.

    1.0reef,

There is a fantastic amount of information contained in both this thread and the other all from posters with years of experience. I know how hard it is not to have a "cool" tank with a ton of fish, corals, etc. in it, but (and this is an Oprah 90's size but) it just can't be done in your tank.

Remember, these are living organisms (and I think about this each time I see a betta in a 4 inch bowl), how would you like to live like that? I imagine myself attempting to live out the rest of my days in a small bathroom, it's not a great deal of fun.

Listen (or read) to the advice being given here and recognize that smaller tanks can have drastic swings in health, levels, and much more, which can also have a huge effect on its inhabitants.

    Just my two shiny pennies.
