Shrunk Chaeto

    that's because the photo was taken just a week after i set the sump up. LOL. its still quite clean today though. its been roughly 2 weeks now. i got a clownfish, a lawnmower blenny, a feather duster and a hermit crab.

    yes it is bama. its the cheapest i found in the grocery store. they got transparent ones that look similar to air tubes we use for air stones, but much bigger. you think those are ok? i used to have those as garden hose and it had nasty green algae all over the inside of it. is that type ok?

    Go to Lowes or Home Depot and buy the black hose (not garden hose) in the plumbing department. It will help prevent algae buildup in the hose. Also get a reflector for the light.

    BUMP! heres a recent photo of my fuge. you guys think it has shrunk? some pods started to show up.
    and i made a DIY reflector using a plastic bowl covered with aluminum sheet tape. check it out.

    let's see......side by side ok so not side by side, but I'd say it may have gotten a little thicker.

    thanks guys! glad you liked my DIY. nice move you got there cuttingras! i think i agree with you. the first time i got that chaeto, it was a little larger in circumference but not as dense. and the latest pic certainly shows a smaller but much more dense chaeto.

    If there are no nutrients going through the chaeto, it will not thrive. 13w is a little low. You can easily find a 26w bulb from anywhere that will be much brighter and allow it to grow much faster. adding a fuge fish doesn't hurt. Just make sure it doesn't eat pods. Also, get a wad of chaeto from a local reefer and add it. That will help seed your fuge with pods.
