Will 1 siamese algae eater been sufficient for a 30 gallon planted discus tank ? I wash down the inside of the glass twice a week to clean off the slime & vaccuum lightly twice a week to get up excess food, etc.

They certainly stay active but they do get quite large and when they get that big they can be aggressive. I have one in a 46G and he does a pretty fair job ( he gets an assist from a catfish to clean the bottom). At this point he's probably 5 inches long and about as big around as my middle and ring fingers side by side.

I would go with 2. I have 4 in my 75 gallon planted tank and they do well. you will always have some algae to take off the glass but it should be light and easy to remove. Make sure it is a Siamese not Chinese algae eater. Siamese have a thick black band from nose through the caudal fins. The fins are otherwise colorless and clear. If the fins are clear and have color it is a species that is nowhere as efficient. I have not had any problems with mine being belligerent to any fish and all are around 3" long.

Here is a picture of mine.

I can't find mine to take a damn picture. I'm not sure how a fish that size hides so well but he does a good job.
