    Lost the battle

Well, finally lost the green toadstool coral, and took him out last night. Boy did it stink this morning! Have had a bit of a panic about the blue tang having velvet and ended up buying a UV sterilizer which we may not keep running all the time.

LFS thought it might have been lack of flow that did for the toadstool, so we got another 4000lph to go with the 2800lph. Tempted now to get one of those wave machines to plug them both into... My wife is already thinking we're spending too much though so may have to wait for that ;-)

Seems to be lots of small things appearing and growing in various nooks and crannies, one of which is a transluscent disc about 2 cm diameter with nodules around the edge. Growing in a shady spot but guess he can move if he wants more light.

Really fed up with the look of the skimmer pump and sponge, may put in a sump at some point.

Other toadstool seems to be splitting in two, and just saw what looks like a white legged shrimp through a gap in the rocks. Could it be from live rock or can our (single) boxer shrimp have reproduced? Looks quite big though.

    Current water stats: NH3=NO2=0, NO3=25, PO4=0.25, SG= 1.022 (bringing up to 1.025 slowly)

Thanks for all help. Will post some pics later.

    Andy.

you will find many many hitchhikers coming from your live rock! I have had my live rock in my 46g for some time now and am still finding new things! its crazy how things can hide in your tank and you not see them for months or even a year! the "clear disk" might be a ball anemone. google it and see if thats it :)

Thanks voodoo, doesn't look like that. It's quit slow growing too, unlike some of the mushroom corals that have been sprouting up everywhere. Tank is settling down well now and toadstools, candy canes, and kenya tree are looking great. Have added a neon goby, but it's very shy and hasn't started cleaning yet. Fighting a battle with aiptasia too.
