It should be fine. I know that silicone sealant should cure underwater as well, but since you are doing it without water, it should be fine either way.

PVC glue I hear is fine but let it set a good while before putting water to it...the sealent is fine as long as it issnt th estandard walmart stuff...but it looks as if you got the right stuff from an LFS DO NOT use regfular silicone get th eright stuff or it could kill your livestock

Normal silicone sealants tend to contain fungicides which are toxic to your reef inhabitants.

Look at any type @ home depot and it will tell you it will not have mold or fungas growing on it. Look for aquarium silicone, it doesn't have those nasty additives, just the straight silicon

GE silicone 1 without the fungicide and mold inhibitor, just the straight up 100% silicone is 100% reef safe. For 5 dollars a tube it works just like the aquarium sealant, but a lot less $$, and easier to get.

I have used this sealant in the past, and I will use it again, especially fro sealing my glass to the inside of my plywood reef tank.

According to the label & GE's product information sheet, GE I silicone is NOT intended for water use.
ALWAYS read the label - it will tell you if it can be used in an aquarium.
If you're putting pipes together, use PVC cement. Silicone has limited adhesion to certain plastics.

look for PVC glue that is for potable water or drinking water and use that. What you can drink from your fish can swim from :)

If you were to go with the GE Silicone product, get the type I, rather than the type II, which contains anti mildew agents which can kill your tank inhabitants. You mention you can get silicone from work, but I'm not sure what the brand would be. Generally speaking, as long as you can confirm it contains nothing but silicone adhesive, you'll be ok.

As for the PVC piping, use PVC glue. It stinks to high heaven when wet, but dries to an inert, harmless product.
