skimmer broken?

hey,
so my skimmer just stopped working recently. im trying to brain storm the problem. i have a coral life super skimmer. (not very good i would say). but bascially it doesn't bubble water, it pumps the water through the system and pumps it back out. i took it out and put tap water in and it showed small signs of bubbling for the tap water.

any ideas?

 

What does it run to collect the air? Specially if it's a tube, it may have become clogged

 

i have one and mine works excellently. is your airhose tube clear that comes from the pump to the silencer(filmroll container looking thing).

 

Along those lines.. is there a venturi on this skimmer? Salt creep may be coming into play. That happened to mine from time to time and I would clear it out with vinegar.

 

That one has a needle-wheel on the pump, and the air inlet sometimes gets restricted.
It needs to be cleaned/maintained regularly in order to run w/o problems.

 

the skimmer is suppose to be bubble all the time right? or could it clean it to the point there is no more to skim

 

I have same skimmer and it is usualy calicum build up on the plastic piece that the air hose attaches if you clean with viniger it will be back to new I do mine about once and month and it works like a champ

 

it should always bubble. Also if pump is too far in water it will cause it to stop bubbling

 

what piece are you talking about cleaning? the little cylinder piece that has two wholes coming out of it? i try blowing air into the actually air tube to see if there was a blockage. and then it started bubbling for a second. when i stop and put it back onto the cyclinder thing. there were no bubbles again

 

i have the same skimmer. the little fitting right behind the intake screen gets clogged (calcium buildup or salt). it restricts the incoming airflow. its the part that the airline hooks to under water surface. just remove the intake screen and clean out that little fitting. it should be the same diameter all the way down through the fitting. then your skimmer will bubble like a champ. ;D
