    Hey everyone
I have just turned my Protein skimmer on, although the bubbles that are forming below the collection cup are quite small. Can someone please tell me if it is ok for the bubbles to be small or do they have to be large bubbles.

Thanks all please share your advice I am willing to listen.;D;D

You want as many small bubbles as possible. You want the chamber below the collection cup to be as white as possible with micro bubbles. The nutrients build up on top of those small bubbles and travel up the neck and then into the collection cup.

I'm assuming this is a brand new skimmer? If it is dont worry about bubble size it will take some time for it to 'break in' basically for production materials to break off and fish tank bacteri aka slime coat to form. both of which will effect your bubble production and size. If its an in sump model I would suggest taking the lid off and setting the bubbles where they should be for norml production and letting it do its thing. depending on the skimmer bubbles level and production can fluctuate and trying to keep up with it and change and adjust during break in will be nerve raking. just let it run. if it bubbles over it bubbles over. a new skimmer isnt producing enough to have an effect at first where an overflow would be concentrateed enough to effect anything.

Also, it will take about 14 days for the skimmer to "break in" and those micro bubbles will settle down a bit.
