My skimmer, 120 extreme SWC , recommends 5 to 8 inches of water. Can I put it in 10 inches without compromising effiecenty?

No. Put something under the base to raise it up.

Build a platform out of some PVC and egg crate. It maybe cost me 10$ to build my stand.

Thanks! I just built a stand from PVC and egg crate. Looks good and at the right level now.
