    Hey everyone,

Here is the scenario. I have a 67 litre tank and I am in the middle of setting it up, I got a skimmer rated for a 400 litre tank, the Proskim G216 (Question, was this good or a bad idea and why?). So I set it up for a little while and let it run but then I had to turn it of for personal reasons, and during that time the skimmer started to crack, for a reason that is unknown to me, they are only small hairline fractures, but they are still cracks and they began to ruin the structural integrity of the skimmer (Is the Proskim G216 know to do this or is this just a one off). Now I have to make the decision in getting an entirely new design of skimmer, or claim the warranty of the G216 in hope that it was only a faulty skimmer that I initially received. If I were to replace the skimmer I was planning on going for the Miniskim 80, which is a lot cheaper and more suitable for the tank size and if anyone had any reviews on the Miniskim 80 I would be very appreciative if you would share your views on whether or not it is a good skimmer.

Thankyou very much, hopefully you can help. #imanoob

It does not seem that you did anything to actually cause the skimmer to fracture. i would first recommend that you contact the maker of your skimmer and more often than not they will simply send you a new one. on the topic of being a good idea i do not think it is a bad idea unless you are planning on having a full blown reef set up. a skimmer is basically a toilet for the tank and is rated for a certain amount.

Also most skimmers have a rating for low, medium and high bio-loads, these figures are what i would base my desicions on.

Whether you upgrade or not, claim the warranty. If you decide later to upgrade (or now), the skimmer you have now could be used as a backup in an emergency. If you don't claim the warranty and get the faulty one replaced, the money you spent on it is wasted money.
Skimmer size? My personal opinion (that many have disagreed with in the past) is that the only way a skimmer is too big is if it wont fit in the setup.

I don't know anything about either, so not sure if I'd get a new one. I would claim the warranty though regardless. Then you could always sell the repair/replacement and get some money back at least.

proskim looks like a junky cheap skimmer from what google showed me. Get a reef octopus or something of good quality.

Try for the warranty if they give you a knew one no out of pocket cost for you. Then if you want to sell the new one and get a better skimmer. I would go that route
