Skimmer from LFS...

Ok i'm getting a skimmer for my 60 gallon tank from my LFS. What I'm going to do i guess is run it on my tank when i start it up. If it doesn't work i'm going to take it back. It's pretty good sized. Prob 18 inches tall by prob 4 or 5 inches. Looks to be custom made. I'll have to get a pic of it for you guys.

Any thoughts? Incite? What makes a protein skimmer work well? Any mods i could do to it if it doesn't? And how do i know if it's working well? Essentially they all do the same thing. Whirlpool bubbles that carry sediment to the top cup. So why so expensive? Won't this cheap one do the job?

Yeah i'll get pics of it tomorrow or somethin. I mean, it looks pretty efficient. But i dno. I don't know the mechanics of skimmers so my word is no better than that of say a....i dno....a squirrel? lol. I was looking at this one too... AquaC Remora Hang-On Protein Skimmer

 

I love the remoras, i had one on my 55 for a while and then put it in my 75 when i upgraded and it skimmed like a champ on both

Yup great skimmer, i also ran mine not as a HoB but in the sump, also i changed out the pump first with a mj1200 then with a mag 3
